Thanh Nam Shipping Company participates in rescue drills at Chan May Port – Hue City

On November 4, at wharf No. 2, Chan May port (Thua Thien Hue), Thanh Nam International Transport Trading Joint Stock Company in coordination with Thua Thien Hue Maritime Port Authority and functional units participated in the annual rescue drill. The drill was organized with the participation of the Director of Vietnam Maritime Administration, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee and leaders of departments and branches, aiming to enhance coordination, ensure maritime safety and be ready to respond in emergency situations.
Drill situation
According to the hypothetical scenario, a collision occurred between a transport ship and a fishing vessel of the province, causing the fishing vessel to have a hole in the engine room, at risk of sinking due to water ingress and signs of fire and explosion along with the risk of oil spill. At the same time, the bow of the transport ship was also damaged due to the impact of the collision.
Immediately after receiving the distress report, the representative of the Thua Thien Hue Maritime Port Authority in Chan May directed the Thanh Nam ship to coordinate the rescue and salvage of the crew members of the fishing vessel that fell into the water. The rescue team quickly brought the victims ashore for first aid. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the warehouse area behind the fishing vessel, forcing the on-site commander to mobilize a rescue ship from the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region I to assist in firefighting.

Oil spill response and collection process
At the same time, the authorities discovered that oil had spilled into Chan May waters, so they mobilized specialized vehicles and equipment to the scene to collect the oil spill, in order to protect the marine environment. After temporarily fixing the holes and extinguishing the fire, the mining vessel was towed to a safe location for comprehensive repairs.
Evaluation of the drill
The rescue drill at Chan May was successful and achieved the set goals. A representative of Thanh Nam Shipping Company said: “Participating in this drill is an essential annual activity of Thanh Nam Company, helping the staff improve their rescue skills and ability to coordinate with authorities in emergency situations at sea. The company is committed to continuing to improve safety standards and develop the ability to respond to unexpected situations, ensuring safety for every journey.”
The exercise confirmed the effectiveness of the “4 on-site” motto in search and rescue work: on-site forces, on-site means, on-site command and on-site logistics. This is also an important step towards perfecting the search and rescue organization system, closely coordinating with functional forces to ensure a safe and sustainable marine environment.
